Instruction – Provision of planning and heritage strategy advice to secure a site specific planning policy in the Joint Babergh/Mid Suffolk Draft Local Plan, to facilitate investment in School Campus development and modernisation.
Client – Royal Hospital School, Holbrook
Project Details – The RHS Site is located in the Suffolk Coast & Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and lies adjacent to the River Stour Estuary Special Area of Conservation, Special Protection Area, RAMSAR and Site of Special Scientific Interest. The school campus also incorporates 50 (Grade II* and II) listed buildings, and therefore operates within a sensitive and restrictive planning policy context.
In order to provide increased planning certainty for the School to progress investment contained in its Capital Development Plan, LPP are seeking to secure local plan policy recognition to identify RHS as a major education campus with growth and modernisation needs.
To date, the Local Plan Officers have acknowledged the planning rationale and justification for a site specific policy, and productive discussions are ongoing
